Welcome (and welcome)

June 30, 2007 |

Flip-flop welcome matBlack rubber welcome mats made from recycled tires are fairly common, but any crafter has got to love the color used in these cheerful rubber door mats, made from galvanized metal wire and scrap material from the production of flip-flop sandals (Wetsand.com). The pattern and colors remind me of the potholders I used to construct as a child using the classic square potholder loom (remember those?). It would take some skill — not to mention a generous portion of used flip-flops — to create a mat of your own, but this walk-on work of art has us thinking about what else can be constructed from our used summer flip-flops.

(By the way, welcome to the Recycled Crafts CraftGossip blog from me, Alissa, your new editor. I’m excited to be here, and I welcome your suggestions or links by using the Suggest a Link form.
