Sometimes the technique in creating a project is what really catches my eye. This is the case today. Bottle caps are a great recycled element to craft with and the way that Sara figured out how to flatten them with her Cuttlebug is brilliant! It makes them so “finished” looking.
The Cuttlebug is a manual die-cutting and embossing machine that is commonly used in scrapbooking and other paper crafts. To use it to cut shapes out of bottle caps, first, place the bottle caps flat side down on the thick white A mat. Then, select a die of your choice and place it metal side down on top of the bottle caps. Make sure it is positioned where you want the cut to be. After that, place the clear B mat on top of the die and bottle caps. Finally, pass the entire stack through the Cuttlebug by turning the handle until the stack comes out the other side. The pressure from the machine will cut the shape out of the bottle caps using the die.
She used her flattened bottle caps to make business “cards” but I bet mixed media artists and jewelry makers will love this technique too!
