Were you one of those teenagers that cut words and phrases out of magazines and made collages? Or did you study type or graphic design in college? Well, I did both and this book Creative Lettering: Techniques & Tips from Top Artists combines the two worlds for me! It is artistically creative yet full of solid technique. Lots of the type tutorials include images which is a fun way to combine fonts and illustration. I will most assuredly be trying lots of the techniques featured in Creative Lettering: Techniques & Tips from Top Artists. The first one I tried was from the awesome gallery in the back. I whipped up a Father’s day card made with cut letters from a book catalog which you can see over at Sweater Surgery.
More about the book from Lark Crafts:
” Hand-lettering techniques are a popular and visually dynamic way to add textual elements to crafts, from journals to mixed-media art. Sixteen accomplished contributors—including calligraphers, painters, collagists, card makers, fiber artists, and graphic designers—give their personal perspectives on lettering. They all offer their favorite tools, how they use them, their signature technique with step-by-step instructions and photos, and an alphabet sampler of their own font. Gorgeous gallery images of each contributor’s work are also included.
