Halloween rubber ducky fishing fountain game

September 29, 2016 by Stefanie Girard

halloween rubber ducky fishing fountain

I spotted the funnest set of Halloween rubber duckies at Oriental Trading Company and I new I just needed to use them in a fun Halloween decoration. I thought it might be fun to also make it into a game.

This fishing for Halloween rubber ducky game looks great in the light up drink fountain with the lights out as the drink fountain lights up from the base.

I needed to make the “fishing poles” and also work with the rubber duckies because they need a bit of help floating upright. I knew this when I got them but I was pretty sure I could get these guys to float.

With a bit of research I found out all you need to do is glue 3 pennies on the bottom. I used some jewelry glue to do this. (Hot glue came right off)

For the fishing poles I used recycled chop sticks and fishing line attached with a bit of washi tape.

This is the SECRET to hooking the rubber duckies.

Make the loop just big enough to slip over the duck’s head from front to back. (The top loop in the photo around the scarecrow rubber ducky.)

Then spin the loop sideways on the rubber ducky and lift it out of the water from the side as you can see around the pumpkin rubber ducky at the bottom of the photo.

I really like looking at all the fun Halloween duckies. I don’t plan on having cups anywhere near this game but if you are concerned anyone might drink out of the fountain I suggest make a sign that says something like “DON’T DRINK FROM THE DUCK POND” or something cute like that.

I did try another fun floating look with eyeballs that look pretty cool too!
