I have to tell you there are so many unique, unusual and innovative handmade books in 500 Handmade Books Volume 2 I can’t decide what I want to go recycle into a handmade book first! I have used some unusual materials but nothing quite like the extreme artisans featured in 500 Handmade Books Volume 2 not to mention the amazing construction and binding methods.
More about the book from Lark Crafts:
Everyone who loved the original 500 Handmade Books will eagerly dip into this visually dynamic follow-up. Offering 500 stunning new creations by an international roster of artists, it showcases the unlimited creative possibilities of books as objects and as sculptural pieces. Along with traditional, richly embellished volumes, boundary-pushing works unfurl, scroll, and flip; feature improbable materials like metal, fabric, wood, and glass; and include lush, handcrafted papers.
Julie Chen’s books are considered exceptional for their craft and quality. Always mindful of the reader who will interact with her structures, she selects paper to delight the eye and appeal to the touch, while creating conceptual forms that function as “vessels” for text, images, ideas, and meaning. In addition to teaching Book Arts at Mills College and operating Flying Fish Press, Chen regularly lectures on bookmaking and teaches workshops nationwide. She lives in Berkeley, CA.
