I don’t think I would have ever thought of cat toys as crafting materials but Lisa Kettell did and boy look what she can transform them into! In addition to cat toys she made some great recycled jewelry pieces too!

How to zip up some zippy zipper earrings

These earrings are so cool and simple to make with this wonderful tutorial that is posted over at the blog Silver Bug Studio. This is a great use for an old pair of hoop earrings that have tarnished or if you have two mismatched ones that are slightly different but the same size, since you are covering them no one will know!

A new twist on recycling a plastic soda bottle into a stem or necklace

Over at WikiHow there is a super cool and detailed how to on cutting, melting and twisting a plastic bottle into what they call a wire, but could be called cord or rope. They show projects that include a stem for a flower and threading beads and charms on it.

How to fry marbles and then transform them into jewelry

Over at ehow there is a cool tutorial on how to fry marbles. Why you ask would you want to fry marbles? Because when you do they crack and look crystallized. The tutorial over there includes directions on how to turn the marbles into jewelry using bell caps, but if you are more into wire wrapping pop on over here to see a tutorial on how to make a marble float in an old earring.

I love getting e-mails from readers, showing off all the great crafting they do with recycled materials. So when Amber e-mailed me about her shop Mani Designs Jewelry, I was super tickled.

Featuring a variety of jewelry types, she pointed me in the direction of pieces like that above, which feature recycled and vintage tin salvaged from the five years she lived in India. Because the country has gone “mad for plastic”, she’s featuring the tin as settings in her jewelry instead of precious or semi-precious stones … a brilliant way to both recycle and reuse, and also to showcase the yesteryear.
