Recycled Wall Pockets
November 30, 2007 | Leave a Comment
The papernclay blog features an interesting project perfect for holiday decorating or gift-giving: recycled wall pockets. These vessels are made from glass jars that are melted in a kiln (a.k.a. slumping). Also be sure to check out the artist’s Etsy store, which features a cornucopia of colorful fused glass projects (many of which are holiday-themed).

Zipper Cushion
November 27, 2007 | Leave a Comment
I found this colorful and clever pillow made from pieced-together repurposed zippers by annaramma on Flickr. What a great way to add interest to a throw pillow. I don’t recommend planting your face onto it the next time you take a nap, though. This pillow’s just for show!

Sweater-Turned-Ornament
November 25, 2007 | 3 Comments
I love these homey handmade ornaments from Beautiful Garbage’s shop on Etsy. They’re made from recycled wool, paper and vintage buttons and trim. Best yet, they won’t shatter into pieces when you drop them (unlike those shiny glass balls).

Autumn Votives
November 21, 2007 | 1 Comment
Wouldn’t these homemade votive holders look lovely on your Thanksgiving table? And you likely have all the supplies you need sitting at home: leaves, glue, used glass jars or candle holders and tissue paper (check your shopping bags or shoe boxes if you don’t have any new tissue paper). I found this on the Kaboose [...]

License Plate Charms
November 20, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Move over, Scrabble letter jewelry. Make way for license plate alphabet art. While license plate art might not be new, allisonstrine’s use of them in these funky charms is new to me. She takes letter snippets of vintage license plates and then encases them in glass with fun fabrics, solders the edges and adds a [...]

Wallpaper Journal
November 19, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Ever wonder what wallpaper outlets do with their giant books of wallpaper samples? Unless the store owners are packrats, they toss them out when the wallpaper manufacturers send them new books. I love heatherlea’s simple wallpaper journal, which has a cover made from vintage wallpaper. Add to that rounded corners, inside pages of recycled paper, [...]

Junk Mail Dress
November 14, 2007 | Leave a Comment
It’s hard to believe this beautiful ensemble is made primarily from junk mail. And that the artist who created it, Nancy Judd, has created outfits equally as stunning from rusty nails, newspapers, tin cans and Target shopping bags. Judd, who operates Recycled Runway, is an environmentalist, artist, recycling consultant and educator.
Her web bio reads: “While [...]

Circuit Board Creations
November 12, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Whether you embrace the inner geek in you or not, you’re sure to appreciate (new Etsy member) Debby Arem’s jewelry, magnets, office supplies and accessories made from used circuit boards. I’m especially fond of her sun catchers, which she says can also be used as tree ornaments. At only $7.95, this would, in Debby’s words, [...]
